We work across a range of inpatient sites and community services in the boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham and Hounslow. Broadmoor Hospital is a specialist high-secure psychiatric hospital providing care and treatment for men aged over 18. The hospital is situated in Crowthorne, Berkshire. 

We offer the following placements:

  • Local services: across the three boroughs in inpatient assessment and recovery wards and community services, including child and adolescent mental health services
  • Forensic services in Ealing: low and medium secure for men and women and forensic services for male adolescents
  • High secure services in Broadmoor Hospital.
     

We offer students close support and supervision with:

  • Monthly student support meetings with the practice learning facilitator, link lecturer and students from other years. Students can  share experiences and raise concerns, with dedicated time for reflection on practice issues
  • Dedicated practice learning from the nurse education team linking with all the practice areas. 

Preceptorship is a period of structured transition for newly registered nurse practitioners during which support is provided so that you can develop confidence as an autonomous professional to refine your skills, values and behaviours.

Key objectives of the Preceptorship programme:

  • To support the development all newly registered nurses, return to practice, and overseas nurses to become competent and confident practitioners who can excel in delivering excellent patient care
  • To identify talented newly registered nurses that will benefit from career development programmes to grow into future clinical leaders
  • To provide exposure to the spectrum of challenges in clinical practice including, clinical skills development and leadership and management development.

The components of the programme include

  • Monthly facilitated workshops, currently through MS Teams
  • Clinical skills workshops relevant to role in practice.
  • Work based clinical competency assessment
  • Monthly Reflective sessions
  • Clinical Supervision

The 6 months preceptorship programme

At the Trust we have a rolling programme that allows all new nurses to join the next class after completing our induction. The focus is to immediately develop confidence and competence in the generic competencies of a registered nurse as outlined by the Department of Health (DOH2010), the programme consists of 6 modules:

  • Decision Making
  • Caring and Compassion
  • Managing Risk
  • Professional Responsibility
  • Service User Experience
  • Teamwork and partnerships.
