Community eating disorder service

West London community eating disorders service is a specialist outpatient service which offers assessment, treatment and monitoring for people aged 18 and over with conditions such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder.

Who we are

The team consists of psychologists, trainees, a dietitian and administration staff who work closely with GPs and other medical professionals involved in our patients’ care.

We don’t offer psychiatric reviews or prescribe medication.

The community eating disorder service provides a range of psychological therapies and dietetic input, based on what’s most beneficial and suitable for the person being referred.

We offer group cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for people struggling with bulimia nervosa, binge eating and other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED). This runs for 6 sessions over 6 consecutive weeks. CBT is a talking therapy which aims to help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave.

We offer 16-week group dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT) for those who have completed the CBT group. This aims to decrease emotional suffering and self-defeating behaviours with teaching skills that can be useful in dealing with life situations more effectively.

We offer either CBT or Maudsley Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults (MANTRA) for people with a diagnosis of anorexia nervosa or other feeding or eating disorder.  MANTRA involves talking to a therapist to understand what’s causing your eating disorder. It focuses on what’s important to you and helps you to change your behaviour when you’re ready to do so.

Where appropriate, we offer up to 10 sessions of specialist dietetic treatment which includes education about regular and healthy eating.

We accept people:

  • Aged 18 or over
  • Of any gender
  • With a suspected diagnosis of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder or other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED)
  • Who live in Ealing or Hounslow. If you live in Hammersmith and Fulham residence, please refer to Vincent Square Eating Disorder Service.

We can’t treat people with:

Current psychosis or any other major psychiatric or physical disorder requiring treatment before an eating disorder can be addressed.

We accept referrals from any health professional, including GPs and psychiatrists, and from social workers. We don’t accept self-referrals. If you want to access our service, please contact your GP

We’re can’t accept referrals without a client’s recent weight, height and bloods.
